A Swiss team has created a drone that you can control with your body in the form of an exosuit, called FlyJacket, according to Science Daily. FlyJacket was designed for users to control a drone with upper body gestures.
The exosuit includes a motion-tracking device for monitoring movements, an arm support system to help with tiredness and is paired with goggles for first-person-perspective from the drone’s view.
According to Science Daily, Evan Ackerman in IEEE Spectrum said, “the exosuit doesn’t require much in the way of training since it’s inherently so intuitive.”
Participants who used the exosuit in a study said they felt more immersed, had a real sensation of flying and reported less tiredness from enabling the arm support. People also reported less VR-induced motion sickness, which could be from less disconnect between eye motion and body motion. The research from the study involved connecting the exosuit to drone simulation software and quadcopters to represent flight dynamics of a fixed-wing drone.
