Ford’s new GT supercar looks absolutely stunning and the company surely knows it.
It’s because of this beauty and the limited production of the vehicle–Ford has only committed to making 500 over the first two years of production—that the company is able to open up an application process to determine who is fit to purchase one of the $400,000-plus dream cars.
Basically, it will be the Ivy League application process of cars.
The application, which the company posted on its website Wednesday morning, starts out by asking if the applicant has ever owned a Ford vehicle, a Ford GT, or is a collector—you get the gist of it.
The company asks that the applicant selects all criteria that apply, and it’s fair to assume that an ideal applicant would be able to check off the whole list.
Another portion of the application asks the candidate to provide the VIN, model, and year of up to three of the newest Ford or Lincoln vehicles they own.
Those selected from the application process—which ends May 12—will work with Ford’s GT Concierge Service and the selected Ford dealership of their choice to purchase a custom form of the supercar.
“The purchase process for the Ford GT is as unique as our all-new supercar,” said Henry Ford III, global marketing manager for Ford Performance in a statement from the company. “We understand GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Company, and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself.”
Those who aren’t chosen as customers for the GT—I know I won’t be—get a consolation prize: Ford has launched on its website a design-your-own-car option for making a virtual GT. This enjoyable exercise allows participants to choose from eight different exterior colors and eight different stripes, as well as different finishes, varying wheels and interiors.
