Former Comcast exec Craddock named EVP, CTO of PCT

October 28, 2009 By Mike Robuck

PCT International announced that former Comcast executive Steve Craddock has been named executive vice president and CTO of the company.

“PCT International has gained a substantial following within the cable engineering community for its ability to design and manufacture innovative products that solve everyday problems for field technicians,” said Craddock. “My goal is to bring that same collaborative approach, ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking and emphasis on quality to the development of immediate and next-generation solutions that increase subscriber satisfaction and reduce operator costs.”

With PCT, Craddock will be responsible for articulating the company’s technical vision and accelerating the development of advanced product lines for the portfolios of PCT and the company’s Channel Master brand.

“Craddock has been one of the real drivers of the advanced broadband technologies that have improved consumers’ lives and cable operators’ bottom lines,” said Steve Youtsey, president and CEO of PCT. “We believe that his vast experience in cable technology, his deep understanding of the industry’s technological underpinnings and his forward-thinking approach all will be invaluable in increasing our ability to create solutions that meet the needs of our customers.”

Craddock has more than 30 years of experience in cable and telecommunications, including his service at Comcast. Craddock retired from Comcast last year as senior vice president of technology in the office of the CTO.

Craddock played a key role in the development of the cable industry’s data, VOD and VoIP technologies. Craddock, who left Bell Atlantic in 1994 to join Comcast, was Comcast’s representative at CableLabs for its DOCSIS and PacketCable initiatives and also worked on the CableHome project.

He chaired the PacketCable Certification Board and the PacketCable Business Committee and was a founding member, and a Comcast voting member, on the CableLabs DOCSIS Certification Board. He also led the technical due diligence on a number of major Comcast investment initiatives in the technology space.

At Bell Atlantic, Craddock served as vice president and was a key figure in the company’s DSL, fiber optic (FTTH), cable TV and interactive video initiatives. During two decades with Bell Atlantic and AT&T, he was extensively involved in engineering, operations, product development and strategic planning across the voice, video and data markets.

Craddock has also served as the CEO of a software development company, has consulted in the fields of engineering and computer services, and has performed due diligence for venture capital work. He is a present or past member of the technical advisory boards for a number of high technology companies and serves, or has served, as a member of the board of directors for a number of public and private companies.

He is a licensed professional engineer and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the SCTE, CTAM and the Kappa Alpha honor society. He is also a member of the Athletic Board of Governors for the Virginia Military Institute.
