Former Cox Communications chief technology officer Scott Hatfield has landed a new gig as CTO for mobile services vendor Syniverse.

Hatfield abruptly resigned as Cox’s CTO and executive vice president last year after a 15-year stint at the nation’s third-largest cable operator. At the time, Cox said it was a mutual decision between the company and Hatfield in regard to his departure, but there was speculation within the cable industry that his resignation was tied to Cox’s ongoing difficulties in getting its own cellular network built and deployed.

Hatfield, who took over as CTO at Cox when Chris Bowick retired, also was senior vice president and chief information officer at Cox. During his tenure at Cox, he was responsible for running the IT and live network, including cable and high-speed data, as the company migrated from a video-only to a full-service broadband communications company.

Hatfield will be based in Syniverse’s global headquarters in Tampa, Fla., and will lead a global organization with operations in more than 25 countries.

Prior to Syniverse, Hatfield was vice president of Capgemini’s cable practice.
