While most everyone else is talking about bandwidth caps, Frontier Communications has an interesting solution for its customers: Add another, separate DSL line.

With a program Frontier is calling Second Connect, Frontier is inviting customers who are experiencing bandwidth bottlenecks to add another line for as little as $13.50 a month, or $1 a month less than the company advertises for a first broadband connection.

With either a first or second connection, the company adds a $6.30 monthly fee for the additional modem, plus subscription to voice service. So … at least $19.80 a month, plus whatever the phone service fee is.

The company doesn’t advertise what the data rates of the DSL connection are; calls to the company were not returned by press time. Online information suggests tiers run from kbps rates up to 5 Mbps.

Leona Lindner, vice president of commercial marketing for Frontier, said: “If your house now has a single dedicated Frontier connection to the Internet, and you are tired of sharing bandwidth to get your work done at home with the kids’ schoolwork, gaming, social networking and streaming video, call Frontier today. … We can help!”
