At Germany’s IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 show, Ford unveiled the F-Vision concept— a commercial truck infused with autonomy and clean energy.
According to reports from New Atlas and Fox News, among others, F-Vision reaches Level 4 autonomy, as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Being one step below Level 5’s full automation, this stage features self-driving cars that handle almost all of the driving tasks, however, the vehicles will need human assistance from time to time, depending on the circumstance.
Developed by Ford’s Turkish design center, F-vision is a zero-emissions prototype, running on a battery-electric drivetrain, according to New Atlas. F-vision also adapts to its environment through smart materials, such as its automatic tinting windows.
Ford’s team via Motor Authority says that the design was inspired by Marvel comic book characters. Its overall aerodynamic structure is supposed to look like a superhero helmet, fitted with a windscreen resembling a visor and C-shaped lights that mimic a lower jaw, according to the Motor Authority.
Although the futuristic model is still in development, check out its IAA Commercial Vehicles appearance in the video below.
