The making of an E-bike
If you want to build an electric-powered bike these days, one way to do it is with components that effectively form an e-bike kit. The e-mobility division of Marquardt showed what is possible with a bike mock up that included an operating unit (bottom) providing driver controls, a display, and connectivity to smart phone apps; and a combo central control unit/battery (red arrow) that mounts on the frame and provides the intelligence. The electric motor can mount either in the rear wheel hub, on the main gear (there’s also an all-wheel-drive version). Not visible are the bottom bracket and chain-tension sensors that are also part of the system.
