In an effort to keep broadband subscribers up to speed on their data-plan usage, GCI has launched its “No Worries” broadband tiers.
The No Worries broadband plans give GCI subscribers the ability to manage their monthly Internet bills, which in turn should eliminate surprise overage fees.
GCI, which is Alaska’s largest telecommunications provider, said it came up with the No Worries tiers after conducting several customer surveys and “listening” focus groups. The end result was that GCI found out customers wanted to have more control and certainty with their monthly data bills.
“With these new plans, customers pick a speed and data package combination, and if they need additional data usage customers can chose to add a data bucket,” said Paul Landes, senior vice president and general manager of consumer services, GCI. “Since customers will make the choice to add a data bucket, there should never be a situation where their monthly bill is a surprise.
“GCI is determined to provide consumers with the best prices in Alaska. For example, our new 50 Mbps plan costs almost $100 less than rates offered by some other companies in Alaska’s largest communities. Also, GCI’s No Worries plans do not require a contract or subscription to other services to get the best price available, while other companies in Alaska have those restrictions.”

If subscribers go over their data plans they have three options:
• Purchase an additional bucket of data for $10
• Upgrade to a plan that offers more data
• Stay on their current plan until the end of their billing cycle at a more basic level of service.
GCI said the new tiers were available across most of its footprint in Alaska.
