Kabel Deutschland (KDG) has deployed Camiant’s Multimedia Policy Engine (MPE) to dynamically control its network as it begins to propagate its new HomeBox, an IP-based voice and data home gateway.
KDG will use the Camiant MPE to dynamically assure the proper bandwidth and latency treatment for customers switching from legacy services to the HomeBox. The alternative would have been to statically allocate network resources for new customers.
The HomeBox, with a built-in SIP client, provides up to 10 analog and ISDN voice lines, as well as wireless LAN services and USB-based external storage.
Camiant said KDG selected its MPE after an evaluation of several policy servers. Dimension Data is the local systems integrator.
“We selected Camiant’s MPE and Dimension Data, as it was the most advanced technology and service solution for the immediate and future needs of our next-generation network environment,” said Nicolai Boke, head of engineering operation support systems and value-added service for Kabel Deutschland.
Kabel Deutschland operates cable networks in 13 German states and supplies its services to approximately 9 million connected TV households in Germany.
