Gigabit services are now available from AT&T in Little Rock, Ark., Sacramento, Calif., and Greenville, S.C., according to the company.
Homes and small businesses in the Little Rock area can now order the Gig service, including parts of Bryant, Maumelle, North Little Rock, and surrounding communities. AT&T also reports the service is on offer to nearly 150 area apartment and condo properties in the area as well.
“The 100 percent fiber network from AT&T will contribute to our growing economy and high quality of life in the greater Little Rock area,” Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola comments. “Access to high-speed internet will help create new jobs, grow small businesses, and improve access to educational opportunities.”
Homes, small businesses, and 30 apartment/condo properties in California around Sacramento also can access the AT&T gigabit service, including parts of Modesto, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, Stockton, West Sacramento, and surrounding areas. Previously, the service provider announced ultra-fast speeds were available in parts of Placer County (Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln) and nearby communities, and it plans to expand access in parts of Fairfield, Tracy, and Vacaville “in the future.”
In South Carolina, AT&T revealed gigabit service deployments in some areas of Greenville, Greer, and surrounding communities. Additionally, it says it has plans to expand access to ultra-fast internet speeds in parts of Mauldin and Spartanburg at some point.
The S.C. announcement also reaped praise from local city leaders for the economic boost it could provide for the area.
“The availability of ultra-fast internet delivered over a 100 percent fiber network takes Greenville to a whole new level, both in terms of building our reputation as a technology center and enhancing our outstanding quality of life,” Greenville Mayor Knox White says. “I’ve been looking forward to today for 12 months, since AT&T announced its plans. And now I’m even more excited about the new jobs and opportunities which this new network will help create.”
Greer Mayor Rick Danner says that the availability of advanced communications technology helps small businesses grow, creates new economic and educational opportunities, and helps smaller cities compete. “Fiber optics, and the internet speeds it delivers, will have a tremendous impact on our community’s future by keeping us competitive with our larger neighbors for future jobs and growth,” Greer notes.
