Google has added a triple shot of Wi-Fi speed to a Starbucks store in Kansas City now that the store has been connected directly to the Google Fiber network.
The Starbucks located at the corner of 41St and Main Street in Kansas City was the first out of the gates to tap into Google’s fiber network. Google Fiber first launched in Kansas City two years ago.
Last year, Google and Starbucks announced they had teamed up to bring Google’s Wi-Fi access to 7,000 Starbucks stores across the U.S. Google said last year that when a local Starbucks Wi-Fi network “goes Google,” users would be able to surf the web at speeds up to 10 times faster than before.
“If you’re in a Google Fiber city, we’re hoping to get you a connection that’s up to 100 times faster,” Google wrote on its blog last year when it made the announcement. To date, Google said that more than half of the Starbucks locations across the nation were connected to its Wi-Fi service.
The Kansas City Starbucks also features built-in wireless charging technology and the free use of Chromebooks located in new in-store community tables that were wired directly into the Google Fiber network.
Time Warner Cable, which has been competing with Google Fiber in Kansas City and other areas, started offering business data customers its TWC WiFi Hotspot solution, which includes a free access point, for free earlier this year. Time Warner Cable has also increased its public access points in Kansas City and other cities.
