Google Fiber has entered into an agreement to acquire Webpass, a company that focuses on high-speed data deployments to residences and businesses primarily using point-to-point wireless.
Webpass currently has customers in the California cities of San Francisco, Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley and San Diego, as well as Florida cities Miami, Miami Beach and Coral Gables. It also serves Chicago and Boston.
The transaction is reportedly expected to close this summer.
“Unlike our competitors, we own and operate our Ethernet network, eliminating dependence on phone and cable companies,” Webpass says in a press release. “We offer business internet connections from 10-1,000 Mbps and residential internet connections from 100 Mbps-1 Gig.”
