Ahead of signing up customers next month for its 1-Gig service in some areas of Austin, Google Fiber has posted pricing details on its Website.
Google Fiber’s standalone, symmetrical gigabit offering costs $70 a month while a bundle of 150 TV channels and the 1-Gig service checks in at $130 a month. DSLreports.com took note of the pricing info on Google Fiber’s Website.
Google Fiber will also offer a free 5 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up tier to customers that pay a $300 installation fee, which can be paid out installments over 12 months at $25 per month.
AT&T upgraded its GigaPower service to 1-Gig this summer after initially launching it late last year with symmetrical 300 Mbps speeds. AT&T’s GigaPower Premiere tier in Austin costs $70 a month and waives fees for equipment, service activation and installation, but GigaPower Premier subscribers have to agree to participate in AT&T Internet Preferences, which means AT&T could use subscribers’ Web browsing information in order to offer them targeted advertising. The Standard tier has the same speeds but costs $99 a month.
Grande Communications’ Power 1000 1-Gig tier in Austin is priced at $64.99 a month and comes without bandwidth caps or contracts. Grande Communications announced the third expansion of its 1-Gig service last week.
Grande, AT&T and Google Fiber have targeted specific areas of Austin for their gigabit services. Last month Time Warner Cable increased its fastest data tier across its Austin footprint to 300 Mbps on the downstream as part of its TWC Maxx upgrade.
