The SCTE Foundation announced yesterday that Tom Gorman, having completed a first term as chairman of the board of directors for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), was named a member of the SCTE Foundation’s board of directors.
Gorman, who is VP of field operations with Charter Communications, replaces Yvette Gordon-Kanouff, who had joined the SCTE Foundation board last year after having completed her service as the SCTE board of directors chair. Gordon-Kanouff is chief strategy officer with SeaChange International.
Gordon-Kanouff, who SCTE said was integral to the establishment of the SCTE Foundation in 2005, will remain directly involved in helping to govern the Foundation as a member of the SCTE Foundation Awards Committee, which oversees the disbursement of the Foundation’s grants.
These announcements came during a special SCTE Foundation Breakfast yesterday at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2008 in Philadelphia.
The SCTE Foundation board conducted its quarterly meeting following the breakfast and established a policy committee. It then elected SCTE Foundation Board Member Bob Gold, principal of Bob Gold & Associates, to serve as chairman of the new committee.
The SCTE Foundation Board also announced today that one of its members, Mike Phebus, national accounts manager with Jones/NCTI, was reappointed to another term as a member of the board.
The Foundation formally acknowledged its esteemed list of SCTE Foundation Founding Donors at the breakfast with an unveiling of plaques that will be displayed at SCTE headquarters, located in nearby Exton, Pa.
A total of 75 donors in the Founding Donor Campaign, which concluded earlier this year, combined to raise more than $225,000 for the SCTE Foundation, whose primary mission is to help SCTE members realize their professional development goals and dreams. The Foundation has helped more than 40 SCTE members with a combined total of approximately $70,000.
The SCTE in the United States and the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) based in the United Kingdom also announced yesterday that they’ve signed a mutual cooperation agreement.
The signing party included Gorman, chairman of the board of directors, and John Clark, president and CEO, both with the U.S.-based SCTE, and Dr. Roger Blakeway, president of the U.K.-based SCTE. The signing ceremony was conducted at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo.
According to the U.S. SCTE, the two membership-based organizations, which are run independently of one another, have had a long relationship that was built in the ’80s and led to the signing of an International Charter of Cooperation in the early ’90s. The new agreement signed today reaffirms and refreshes the relationship between the two organizations.
The new agreement simplifies the relationship and provides for mutual support across several fields of activity. Both agree to cross promote major events on their websites and in publications. Their Web sites will be linked, providing visitors with seamless access to general content. In addition, there will be reciprocal member discounts for conferences, conventions, and bookstores.
