COLUMBUS, OHIO – January 11, 2010 – The Ohio Third Frontier Advanced Energy Program recently announced plans to award $7.2 million to companies in the state to help commercialize new energy solutions.
Nexergy, Inc. (www.nexergy.com), a leading designer and manufacturer of battery packs and chargers, will participate in a grant awarded to GrafTech International Holdings, Inc. to develop graphite thermal management products to improve the performance, durability and safety of lithium ion batteries. Also collaborating in the research with GrafTech are Mobius Power and the Center for Automotive Research at Ohio State University. Together, they were awarded a grant of $965,000 from the Ohio Third Frontier Advanced Energy Program for the Development of Thermal Management Solutions for Lithium Ion Batteries.
Lithium ion batteries store more energy than conventional batteries for their weight and size. Because of their power density, they are considered crucial to the development of electric cars. Nexergy will design, build, and test prototype lithium ion battery packs using the GrafTech thermal management products.
“We are pleased to be a part of this important collaboration to advance the performance of lithium ion batteries,” said Phil Glandon, Nexergy’s President and CEO. “Customers need more powerful energy solutions that are not only safe and reliable but cost efficient too. We believe our experience in this area will greatly contribute to the next generation of power solutions.”
