Sure, you recycle, drive a hybrid, and compost every organic thing you can find. So, how can you take that environmental consciousness all the way to your grave?
Leverton & Sons, a funeral home based in London, added an electric hearse to its fleet, ensuring your last ride will be as environmentally friendly as possible.
The eco-hearse was customized by automotive designer Steve Cousins, in conjunction with Brahms Electric Vehicles.
The hearse began its life as a Nissan Leaf, a car that already has rapid battery charging capabilities and the ability to travel up to 85 miles on a single charge.
“We started out company in 2011 with the believe that electric power is the future of funeral vehicles here and around the world,” the Northamptonshire-based company says on its website. “In 2016, 100-mile vehicle range and the extensive distribution of recharging sites make this a reality.
“… Nissan began manufacturing the Leaf in Sunderland in the U.K., and we chose this vehicle as the base for the new Brahms hearse. The vehicles are quiet, dignified, and respectful of the environment.”
An eco-friendly hearse isn’t the only Earth-friendly funeral option Leverton & Sons offers. The funeral home also promotes coffins made from biodegradable materials and arranges burials in woodland areas.
“By using the Eco-Hearse, we will reduce our carbon footprint and are glad to make a small contribution towards creating a cleaner London for future generations and our local environment,” says the funeral home’s website.
