The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has received a proposed settlement from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) as well as a number of public interest groups, labor unions and automakers, calling for the expedited placement of smart EV charging stations that would support the city’s utility grid.
The submission marks the first time that California has received a utility pilot proposal for the creation of charging infrastructure. If approved, the program would task SDG&E with installing such infrastructures at up to 550 multi-family housing sites and workplace locations throughout the area it services. Electronic vehicle drivers or infrastructure site hosts would be billed for the charging on SDG&E service accounts.
