Guavus, which provides big data analytics applications for operational intelligence, named Roger Brooks as chief scientist. Brooks has held various executive positions including an eight-year tenure at Hewlett-Packard, most recently as chief architect in the new H-P Software.
“We are delighted to add Roger to our team,” Anukool Lakhina, CEO and founder of Guavus, says. “His real-world experience in using analytics for actionable insights will bring value to our customers who are looking to drive costs out of their business, generate new revenue streams and transform into data-driven businesses.”
Brooks also was previously distinguished technologist and chief scientist in H-P’s Marketing Optimization business, where he was responsible for marketing analytics. He also served as CTO for Applications at H-P Autonomy. Before joining H-P, he co-founded and led startups in the information analytics and mobile data services spaces including the development of systems for multimedia networking and the delivery of video to cell phones.
He holds numerous patents and is also a published author on analytics topics including text mining, behavioral analytics and multichannel marketing optimization. Brooks spent the first half of his career in academia as a theoretical particle physicist at Stanford University and M.I.T., where his last position was as associate professor of physics. As an international expert in string theory, topological field theories and quantum gravity he applied research mathematics to answering deep questions about the nature of the universe.
