GVTC has begun marketing Internet connectivity at up to 1 Gbps in a large region just outside San Antonio, Tex.
The company announced in June it was building a fiber to the home (FTTH) network, using equipment from Calix.
Thus far, the company has strung 2,200 miles of fiber across a 2,000 square mile area that includes parts of Far North San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the Gonzales, area. Currently, more than 40,000 rooftops are connected to GVTC’s fiber network, the company said; it is in the process of extending connectivity to an additional 2,600 homes in select residential neighborhoods.
The GVTC GigaRegion is a private-public partnership among GVTC and the cities of Boerne, Bulverde and Gonzales.
A marketing campaign to promote the GVTC GigaRegion across the country is underway. The goal is to generate economic development and appeal to both business and residential customers seeking access to faster Internet speeds, while enjoying the lifestyle of a smaller community.
“There’s been a lot of talk about bringing gigabit Internet speeds to the area and I’m proud to say GVTC delivered in a matter of weeks after announcing our commitment,” GVTC President and CEO, Ritchie Sorrells, said. “Our partner cities in the GVTC GigaRegion(TM) have a valuable asset they can use now to compete for the types of jobs that will help their communities grow and prosper.”
