GVTC Communications has deployed the Calix E7-20 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and 700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs) for the GVTC GigaRegion fiber network that stretches across three cities just north of San Antonio, Tex.
The gigabit passive optical network (GPON) network includes 2,200 miles of fiber covering roughly 39,000 homes, business, and other institutions in the cities of Boerne, Bulverde, and Gonzales.
GVTC will offer voice, video, and security monitoring, along with high-speed data services beginning in September of 2014.
GVTC and the three towns are collaborating on a 2-year marketing plan to promote the area; with the aim of presenting the GigaRegion network as one of the attractions.
“Calix technology is the foundation for being able to create the GVTC GigaRegion, which our municipal partners will use to fulfill their vision for managed growth,” GVTC president and CEO, Ritchie Sorrells, said. “With the untapped possibilities of a gigabit Internet connection, made possible through the Calix platform, the GVTC GigaRegion will be a center of ingenuity and entrepreneurialism.”
With the GVTC contract, Calix said it has now enabled 30 gigabit services deployments around the world.
