Harmonic Inc. said it has become the first fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) video transport vendor to win TL 9000 certification, a key metric among most telcos.
Harmonic said the certification paves the way for it and its partners to install a video transport platform for Verizon Communications and other telco customers.
Using the MAXLinkPlus 1550 nm Transmitter, Harmonic’s video approach to FTTP uses a cable-like RF overlay (rather than switched IP) that pumps out data in excess of 5 Gbps to the home. That’s enough for more than 250 simultaneous MPEG-2 HD channels, Harmonic said.
The platform “enables RBOCs and other telcos to more quickly and cost-effectively introduce compelling broadcast and on-demand television services,” said Patrick Harshman, president of Harmonic’s Broadband Access Networks Division, in a release.
