Harmonic introduced an enhanced set of network management tools for monitoring and managing video processing and delivery systems.
The company’s NMX 6 tool suite includes an improved GUI, streamlined workflow management, improved alarm management and a comprehensive dashboard view, the company said.
Service creation, configuration and system performance, including failover and recovery time, were improved by 50 percent or more in initial testing, Harmonic said. System load time and map import/activation are also accelerated – by 20 percent.
Also, the total number of streams supported per server with NMX 6 is doubled, with gains in the total number of devices supported as well.
The company claimed NMX is being used by a number of service operators to control and monitor more than 2,000 systems and 120,000 digital TV services worldwide.
Separately, the company said its ProStream 1000 stream processor with ACE transcoding technology completed compliance testing for the Microsoft Mediaroom Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) platform.
ACE supports HD and SD and MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video and audio transcoding of up to 20 HD or 80 SD channels.
“Microsoft Mediaroom is significantly reducing hardware and management costs and speeding time to market for service operators, with key features such as server virtualization. Harmonic’s ProStream 1000 with ACE, thanks to its dense bulk transcode capabilities, likewise helps to minimize the cost of new Mediaroom deployments or service expansion by existing Mediaroom service operators,” said Steve Koepp, senior manager of business development for the media platforms business at Microsoft Corp.
Finally, Harmonic said the ‘yes’ DBS Satellite Services has deployed its MediaPrism converged video suite as part of its recently launched video-on-demand service.
