RGB Networks has scored a deal with HBO Europe that will help the programmer deliver TV Everywhere services across the 15 European countries it serves.
HBO Europe is using RGB’s Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) and TransAct Packager for transcoding and packaging video for its HBO Go live streaming service. The transcoded and packaged video content is delivered via Microsoft Smooth Streaming.
HBO Go is a TV Everywhere portal that allows HBO Europe’s subscribers to access more than 1,400 hours of HBO content anywhere there’s a broadband connection.
HBO Go is being rolled out across the region, with most subscribers now able to access the service; a live streaming capability was added in the fall of last year. The live streaming of a premium video service to a wide variety of end user devices requires an IP video platform, which RGB enables through its products, that delivers the highest quality, capacity and reliability.
“The ability to access content at any time on any device is redefining the entertainment industry today – the success of the HBO Go live streaming service is testimony to this fact,” said Ramin Farassat, vice president of product marketing and business development for RGB Networks. “We are delighted that our products, with their industry-leading stream processing capacity, advanced video processing functions and exceptional reliability are enabling customers, such as HBO Europe, to meet subscriber demands and reap the benefits of multi-screen’s rapid evolution.”
