HBO Go’s TV Everywhere service is now available on Google’s Chromecast streaming adapter.
With shows such as “Game of Thrones,” HBO Go has proven to be one of the more popular streaming services for authenticated subscribers while the $35 Chromecast device has also been well received since it hit the market this past summer.
In addition to Chromecast, the HBO Go app also supports Android and iOS devices, as well as offering video on its own web portal. The HBO Go app is also supported by various cable operators.
“Google’s Chromecast is one of the newest, more exciting devices in the marketplace today, so we are very happy to bring this capability to our subscribers,” said HBO CTO Otto Berkes. “From the beginning, our goal has been to bring HBO Go to the devices where viewers want to watch it and Chromecast definitely falls into that category.”
Google’s Shanna Prevé, head of content partnerships for Chromecast and “Mother of Dragons in Training,” wrote on a blog post that the mobile and web apps would be rolling out over the next few days.
Introduced in July, Chromecast is a small stick roughly the same size as a thumb drive that can be plugged into an HDMI port on flat-panel TVs. It brings Netflix, Google’s YouTube site and other Internet content into households.
According to recent research, the smart set-top box and dongle market is projected to surpass 18 million units this year, which was higher than original forecast, due to the arrival of Google’s Chromecast device.
