Cablevision Systems plans to add 15 new high-definition (HD) channels to its iO TV digital cable lineup, raising its HD channel total to 60 channels.
Cablevision said it will start offering the first of the new channels on July 28 and will have all 15 available across its entire service area by Aug. 1.
The MSO provided a partial list of the new HD channels, which includes Nickelodeon, WE tv, AMC, Animal Planet, The Weather Channel, Travel Channel, FOX News Channel, Discovery Channel, Hallmark Movie Channel and FX.
Cablevision said it’s “celebrating freedom” with the offer. Get it? It’s July 3, and tomorrow is the 4th of July. The channels are being offered for free the day before we celebrate the country’s freedom? Us writers get paid the big bucks for thinking up stuff like that.
“With our nation poised to celebrate the holiday that marks our freedom, we thought it was a perfect time to announce even more free HD for our iO TV digital cable customers,” said John Trierweiler, Cablevision’s SVP of product management. “Free HD has become an important competitive differentiator of our digital cable service, and with these additions, iO TV customers will have access to 60 of the best HD channels at no additional cost, including all of the HD games of all nine New York-area professional sports teams.”
