Healthcare provider ProMedica has selected Telesystem for its latest network expansion. Telesystem is the sister company of Buckeye Cablesystem that provides business services.

ProMedica has 320 facilities in 27 counties in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The nonprofit healthcare system was in need of additional network and storage capacity, given the increasing amount of multimedia information required to be accessed and pushed from one facility to another.

Telesystem is serving ProMedica with carrier-class DWDM equipment to provide Fibre Channel for SAN Storage backup, plus E-Line and E-LAN services. Each signal or service is then carried on its own separate wavelength.

“Everyday ProMedica depends on the highly sensitive material sent across our network to provide care for more than four million patient encounters annually. Telesystem’s solution was determined to best meet our requirements and allow us to future-proof our network,” said Tom Della Flora, ProMedica vice president of information systems.

“By creating redundant paths plus duplicating electronics and equipment, Telesystem has helped to ensure that our network will still remain active, even if a catastrophic event were to occur. Also, by increasing our bandwidth capacities we are now positioned to scale up to 100 gigabits per second if traffic demands, thereby improving the reliability and performance of our core infrastructure,” Della Flora continued.

Telesystem operates a fiber and carrier-grade Ethernet core network. Utilizing Session-Initiated Protocol (SIP) offerings such as Hosted Stations (Hosted IP-Centrex), SIP Trunks, high-definition voice and a growing suite of application solutions are available virtually anywhere in the world through the advancement of the Epiphany product portfolio.
