The RidleyBox combines the following—a lifetime license for RidleyWorks Design Software, a four-channel Frequency Response Analyzer, a four-channel 200-MHz oscilloscope, a Ridley Universal Injector, and an Intel computer—all in one product.
The Ridley Universal Injector features an ultra-wide range of operation from 0.1 Hz to above 30 MHz. It can provide a full 1-Vrms output signal from 0.5 Hz to 30 MHz and still has plenty of signal output available at its lowest range of 0.1 Hz. When used as a current injector, the low impedance of the isolator makes it capable of providing a minimum of 200 mArms output from 1 Hz to above 30 MHz.
The design sequence in RidleyWorks generally starts with inputting the desired specifications, selecting one of 12 commonly used topologies and viewing the fully-designed power supply, modifying any of the design variables (for experienced designers) as needed, simulating the design using the world’s most efficient large-signal simulator with instantaneous waveforms, then changing components to see the immediate impact on waveforms. Design of the control loop produces a fully-automated loop design in current-mode or voltage-mode. Experienced designers can reshape the loops to push performance and view the world’s most accurate small-signal modeling developed by Dr. Ridley and Dr. Vorperian. Magnetics design features let the designer choose cores, wires, layout, or work with the default design, generate full proximity winding loss and curves, reshape the curves to craft a custom magnetics design, and print the results for the magnetics vendor to build, or build your own. Simulation facilities generate accurate and instantaneous cycle-by-cycle waveforms. Designs flow seamlessly into LTspice schematics where loop gains and transfer functions can be directly measured without specialized models.
