ICTV has secured its first HeadendWare customer: Access Communications.
Access plans to deploy the interactive television software platform this fall in Canada using Motorola DCT 1000, DCT 2000 and DCT 2100 set-top boxes already in use by more than 80,000 subscribers in the Regina, Saskatchewan market.
HeadendWare is designed to run on any digital set-top box, according to ICTV. The platform servers can be distributed across an operator’s optical fiber backbone network. A single headend rack supports up to 500,000 digital subscribers. The platform also offers plug-and-play customer data gathering tools for tracking and producing personalized services.
Access selected ICTV’s platform for its speed to market. “The trial system was functioning within 24 hours of arrival, and was providing in-home service to ‘friendlies’ – with no upgrade required in customer premise equipment – in less than a week,” said Jim Deane, Access president and CEO.
ICTV’s strategic partners include ACTV, Adelphia Communications Corp., Liberty Media Corp., Motorola Inc., OpenTV, Shaw Communications, TV, Cox Communications and Lauder Partners.
