Ikanos Communications and Jungo have developed a reference platform for a Residential Gateway (RG) that combines Ikanos’ VDSL2 hardware and Jungo’s OpenRG middleware. The pair claims the platform will deliver 100 Mbps symmetrical throughput.
The Ikanos chip at the heart of the VDSL2 RG reference platform, the Fusiv processor, is backward compatible with ADSL2/2+ and VDSL1. The Fusiv processor incorporates wire-speed packet processing and programmable accelerator processors that offload the main processor.
The Jungo middleware includes APIs to support not only data applications but also Internet Protocol television (IPTV), home media distribution, home networking, voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP), wireless local area networking (WLAN), Ethernet switching, IP-PBX and TR-069 remote management support, among others.
