Apple is negotiating with News Corp. to be able to rent TV show episodes at 99 cents for 48 hours.
CBS and ABC are also in negotiations with Apple, all according to an anonymously sourced article in Bloomberg.
If true, and if successful, it would allow Apple to compete more effectively with subscription/rental companies, such as Netflix on the one hand and free sites such as Hulu on the other.
Such a move might lend additional appeal to Apple’s iPad, with its larger-than-iPod viewing screen.
NBC is notably not involved, and the speculation runs to the network’s pending acquisition by Comcast.
