Comcast is said to be looking for a streaming music service it can offer its TV customers as an a la carte feature.
The MSO is looking to offer the service, possibly for an additional $5-per-month charge, reported TechCrunch.
Comcast currently has what is, in essence, a referral service to other music sites for its broadband customers. For example, Comcast customers can use their Comcast log-ins to gain access to Rhapsody to get the same free streaming music service that Rhapsody provides to anyone.
There are many Internet-based streaming services available beyond Rhapsody, all easily accessible. It’s also becoming easier to distribute Internet radio through home networks. Many TVs are getting Internet connections built in.
Given all of that, the value of an a la carte option through the TV has to be proven.
