Comcast is looking to promote increased use of its VOD service later this month with a week’s worth of free VOD access.
According to deadline.com, the MSO hopes to draw consumer attention to its broad VOD catalog late this month by offering shows from its broadcast, cable, and premium cable networks for free for a week.
The announcement was made by Comcast CEO Neil Smit at Deutsche Bank’s Media, Internet & Telecom Conference in Florida.
The company will call the event the Xfinity Watchathon.
Unlike other pay TV providers “we have all five (major broadcast) networks,” Smit says.
Some sort of push to promote its TV Everywhere service might be in the works too. Deadline.com quoted Smit saying of Comcast’s promotion of TV Everywhere, “I’d probably give us a B. We have a lot of great content. Now it’s our job to leverage it.”
