In order to lure customers over from AT&T, Time Warner Cable has tuned up a tier in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that features 75 Mbps on the downstream.
Users in DSL Reports’ Time Warner Cable forum said the service is called “Ultimate 75” and costs $90 a month. Time Warner Cable was slower out of the gates than most of the other major MSOs with its DOCSIS 3.0 deployments, but in the third quarter of last year, it added a record number of 73,000 new subscribers.
Time Warner Cable’s fastest speed to date has been its 50 Mbps tier, although the company has started offering a 100 Mbps service in Kansas City, where it competes against Google Fiber’s 1 Gbps offering.
Time Warner Cable’s upstream speed for its 30 Mbps and 50 Mbps tiers has been 5 Mbps; a spokesman didn’t respond this morning in regard to the upstream speed for the 75 Mbps tier.
During a November third-quarter earnings call, Time Warner Cable President and COO Rob Marcus said the cable operator would increase the speeds on its standard Internet tiers by 50 percent, to as much as 15 Mbps on the downstream, which started last month.
