Pulaski White Rural Telephone Cooperative (PWRTC) is in the process of acquiring TV Cable of Winamac, aka Zing. The purchase price was not disclosed.
PWRTC provides telephony services and broadband up to 50 Mbps symmetrical, but no TV; Zing is a cable operator offering 100 channels, using TiVo boxes, with broadband that tops out at 10 Mbps downstream.
Together, the operation will be able to provide a triple play bundle that combines the most advanced services of each. PWRTC said the acquisition is part of a five-year plan “to bring the communications network in northern Indiana up to the same level as in metropolitan areas.”
Both operate in northern Indiana. The combined entity will do business under the name LightStream.
Mark Dickerson, president and CEO of PWRTC, said, “Not only do these investments increase the quality of life for our community,” said Dickerson, “but they enhance opportunities for economic growth. Corporate site selectors expect high-speed, fiber-optic Internet, and their employees expect top-quality video entertainment choices, at prices they can afford, and we’re going to fulfill those demands.”
