Indiana’s Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power (CEL&P) has awarded Wave7 Optics with a contract to build a fiber-to-the-home network that will serve the utility’s 9,500 residential and commercial customers.
CEL&P estimates the network will cost about $18 million, with services slated to launch in the third quarter of 2004. It hopes to pass all 9,500 homes and businesses with the fiber network by Q2 2005.
Under the agreement, Wave7 will provide its “Last Mile Core” switching and transport platform in the field and its “Last Mile Gateway” at the customer premise. Wave7 will also supply its network monitoring and quality assurance platform. CEL&P will tap the gear to offer broadband data and IP-based video services.
