Ipitek is making it easier to make more efficient use of its 10 Gigabit Ethernet transport systems with an upgrade of its system software. The company said the upgrade was just field tested by an unnamed major MSO’s metro network.
Ipitek’s new System 3.2 software improves operational performance of Ethernet-based business services, according to the company. It does so by providing for low-cost aggregation and transport of business-class Ethernet services, while helping to protect against operator errors and enhancing circuit-layer management.
The company said the upgrades can help MSOs conserve fiber by using built-in dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) or single fiber bi-directional multiplexing to the customer premises when needed.
The software upgrade is based on an in-band managed system, allowing for robust auto-detection and prevention of loops in the management path, Ipitek said. The system also features multiple fast-protection re-routing choices to guarantee high availability, and end-to-end service level provisioning of service-level agreement (SLA) parameters, monitored with operational administrative and maintenance (OAM) continuity check (CC) messages between maintenance end points (MEPs).
Customers with service contracts can upgrade to this new software free of charge.
