Buying a position in mobile networking is looking like an incipient trend. JDSU decided to purchase Casabyte Inc., a provider of service quality monitoring solutions for mobile network operators. Yesterday, Amdocs announced it would buy SigValue Technologies.
JDSU did not reveal financial details. Casabyte will be integrated with JDSU’s Communications Test and Measurement division.
JDSU said Casabyte addresses the rapidly growing need for quality of service (QoS) test solutions as network operators deliver multimedia content over converged fixed-mobile networks.
Service assurance solutions enable network operators to identify, troubleshoot and prevent network degradation that can impair voice, data, video and mobile service quality. Casabyte delivers products that handle a variety of protocols, including 2G (GSM, TDMA, cdmaOne & iDEN), 2.5G (GPRS, EDGE & CDMA2000 1xRTT), and 3G (WCDMA/UMTS & CDMA2000 1xEV-DO).
JDSU expects to complete the acquisition by the end of the quarter (its fiscal third quarter) ending March 31, 2007.
