C-SPAN executive chairman Bill Lamb was named the 2013 Bresnan Ethics in Business Award recipient by the Cable Center.
The award honors the ideals of the late Bill Bresnan, the founder and chairman of Bresnan Communications and a long-time chairman of the board at The Cable Center. Bresnan, who was a pioneer in the cable industry, passed away in 2009. In 2011, former Bright House Networks chairman Bob Miron was named as the inaugural winner of The Cable Center’s Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.
Last year Alan Gerry, chairman and CEO of Granite Associates and chairman of the Gerry Foundation, took home the award.
Lamb, along with 22 cable executives, founded C-SPAN in 1979, serving as chief executive officer until he stepped down in 2012 to become its executive chairman of the board.
Prior to launching C-SPAN, Lamb held various communications roles, including White House telecommunications policy staffer and Washington bureau chief for Cablevision magazine. He also served in the United States Navy for four years.
Lamb has conducted thousands of interviews in his lifetime with such dignitaries as Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama and many world leaders such as Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev. Over the course of his career, Lamb has received numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Humanities Medal. He was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2000.
“I will gladly accept the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award on behalf of the C-SPAN Networks for one big reason: Bill Bresnan. He was a fabulous person whose principals we’ve tried to follow,” said Lamb. “Bill was a wonderful ally for C-SPAN and a colleague in the cable industry and I will always admire his dedication to building a company based on strong ideals and ethics.”
Lamb will be presented the industry award at the Cable Hall of Fame Celebration, June 10 at The Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, in conjunction with The Cable Show 2013.

He is deeply committed to educating the public about how our government works and dedicated to many philanthropic endeavors. We are delighted to honor him with the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.”
An exhibit honoring the award recipients is on permanent display at The Cable Center in Denver.
