Lightpath, a business services division of Cablevision, announced this morning that it has connected more than 6,000 locations with its fiber-optics network in the New York metropolitan area that it serves.
Lightpath said the network, which provides Ethernet-based services to medium and enterprise-sized businesses, has more than doubled in size over the past six years and now spans 5,442 fiber-route miles. Two years ago, Lightpath had fiber connections to 5,000 buildings in its footprint.
“Lightpath is focused squarely on increasing our engagement with more customers to understand how we can help them advance with reliable, flexible and cost-effective services,” said Dave Pistacchio, president, Lightpath. “An important part of serving customers the best we can is ensuring that our network goes where they need it to. Every location we light connects more businesses to cutting edge managed services, world-class data centers, partner organizations and more, all supported by speeds that clear the way to take advantage of new opportunities at every turn.”
In addition to businesses, Lightpath’s service verticals include healthcare, education facilities, government organizations and media companies. In the past 18 months, the company has rolled out Conference Bundle, Managed WiFi, Managed Backup, Uncompressed HD Managed Transport and Private Service, while debuting tailored services suites for healthcare and government.
“Lightpath continues to benefit from extending its expansive fiber network to office buildings in and around the greater New York City metro area,” said Brian Washburn, service director, business network and IT services, Current Analysis. “As Lightpath rounds the 6,000 lit locations milestone, the company is increasingly bringing the high-bandwidth and competitive pricing benefits of fiber to more mid-market businesses and multi-tenant buildings, including at the lower end of the market.”
Last month Lightpath won an award from the New York State Public Service Commission for its services.
