Discovery Communications and Mediacom Communications announced this morning that they’ve renewed their long-term distribution agreement.
The latest deal included TV Everywhere rights across multiple platforms for authenticated Mediacom subscribers of Discovery’s 13 networks.
Discovery brokered a similar deal with Cablevision last week , but on this morning’s fourth quarter earnings call with analysts Discovery CEO David Zaslav said a new deal needed to be done with Comcast prior to the current agreement expiring in June. Zaslav said he hoped Comcast would negotiate in good faith on the new agreement.
The agreement with Mediacom covered Discovery’s full portfolio of networks including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Science, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, American Heroes Channel, Velocity, Destination America, Discovery Family Channel, Discovery Life Channel, Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia.
“We are pleased to announce the renewal of our agreement with Discovery,” said Italia Commisso Weinand, Mediacom’s executive vice president of programming and human resources. “In addition to continued access to Discovery’s linear and on demand content, our customers will now be able to use Mediacom’s TV Everywhere platform to access their favorite Discovery programs on the go.”
