Mediacom Communications saw its video subscriber losses slow in the fourth quarter of 2017, while both phone and broadband customer additions ticked up compared to last year.
Mediacom reported losing 2,000 video customers in the fourth quarter, a marked improvement over the 6,000 it lost in Q4 of 2016. The company ended the year with 821,000 video subscribers.
The cable operator pulled in 22,000 voice customers, up from 12,000 in the year ago period, bringing its total voice subscribers to 564,000. Broadband additions climbed by 15,000 for the quarter to 1.2 million overall. This was also an improvement over the 11,000 it added in the last quarter of 2016.
Revenue for the period was $471.8 million, up 2.5 percent year over year. Mediacom said that excluding advertising revenue, which saw a boost from the 2016 presidential election, revenue would have increased 3.5 percent for the quarter.
Broadband and business services saw revenue growth, while video continued to shrink. Video revenues were down 2.7 percent to $193.7 million for the period, while broadband grew 9.1 percent to $170.9 million. Business services revenue, meanwhile, was 64.5 million, up 8.5 percent year over year.
For the full year revenues jumped 3.7 percent to $1.88 billion, and would have seen a 4.6 percent increase excluding advertising.
Mediacom is the fifth largest cable operator in the U.S., with nearly 1.4 million customers, serving smaller markets primarily in the Midwest and Southeast.
