Mercedes-Benz announced it will invest roughly one billion euros in its Rastatt, Germany-based plant for the production of a future lineup of compact cars.

The funds will help to greatly increase production capacity and will also lead to the hiring of 250 new permanent employees. A concrete time for the investment wasn’t divulged, though it is known that funds will be provided between now and 2020.
The changes to the Rastatt plant “will strengthen the role of the location as the lead plant for compact cars within our global production network,” according to Mercedes-Benz board member Markus Schäfer.
