MetroCast is rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 services, relying in part on Motorola’s high-density CMTS modules, the vendor announced.
MetroCast will use Motorola’s BSR 64000 TX32 Decoupled Downstream Module to provide higher-speed Internet tiers supporting rich streaming, and later perhaps on-demand services, based on the additional downstream capacity and channel bonding made possible with the Motorola equipment.
The Motorola TX32 enables up to eight times existing peak rate and six times average throughput capacity to MetroCast’s existing BSR 64000 chassis, Motorola said.
Separately, Motorola said it has re-engineered its integrated CMTS (I-CMTS) so that it now consumes significantly less power.
