Livonia, Mich., has partnered with WOW! Business for advanced fiber-optic connectivity to its government services for residents. WOW! originally began working with the city back in 2015 to install fiber with 100 Mbps of dedicated internet access to the city hall complex. That reportedly doubled the city’s overall bandwidth from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps. According to a WOW! statement, the service has allowed the city to reduce operating costs, increase efficiency, and lower the amount of resources previously required to manage the information services the city provides residents.
WOW! reports that Livonia is a key expansion area for the company as it extends its local HFC network to support the city itself, and more residents and businesses in the future. The operator says it offers most residents in the region high-speed internet, video, and voice and has plans to expand services to reach all residents in the area.
“WOW!’s fiber-based internet service is exactly what the City of Livonia needs to complete the reliability requirements of our expanding cloud-based service delivery strategy,” Livonia Information Systems Director Dan Putman, says. “Our citizens and city staff require immediate access to information and services via the web and WOW! Business is helping us achieve this as part of our diverse infrastructure.”
WOW! Business Strategic Account Executive Mike Lewis points out that cities like Livonia rely heavily on public, educational, and government access channels as a fundamental way to keep citizens informed, and better broadband service to those city services improves the efficiency of how that information is disseminated. “With WOW!’s faster, more reliable internet service, the city is able to enhance access to information, workforce efficiency, and overall quality of life for those depending on the city’s network and information services,” Lewis notes.
