Midcontinent Communications has deployed Infinera’s DTN ROADM technology to create additional bandwidth on its optical network.
Infinera’s DTN combines high-capacity DWDM transport, integrated digital bandwidth management and GMPLS-powered service intelligence in a single platform.
Midcontinent has the option to turn up services, including Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gbps and other services, when needed. With Infinera’s bandwidth virtualization capability, optical capacity can be deployed between any points on the network to carry a wide range of services.
“We looked at a wide range of options, and the Infinera technology was clearly superior,” said Midcontinent vice president of technology Jon Pederson. “With our Internet traffic growing at 80 percent year-on-year and enterprise customers requesting services up to 10 gigabits per second, we could not afford to take months to add capacity. The Infinera system enables us to fulfill demands quickly and easily.”
Midcontinent operates a 4,600 fiber-mile network, delivering services in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. The company claims more than 250,000 cable television, high-speed Internet and telecom customers.
