Midcontinent Communications has begun deploying a whole-home service based on TiVo equipment and technology, pursuant to an agreement between the two announced late last year.

TiVo has found no small measure of success among mid-sized video companies, providing a whole-home solution based on its DVRs. Along with Midcontinent, SuddenLink, RCN, and Cable ONE are also customers.

Midcontinent said it will roll out the service in Rapid City and the Northern Black Hills area in South Dakota, followed by Minnesota, North Dakota and the remaining South Dakota markets in the coming months. Midcontinent claims a total of about 300,000 customers.

The operators will use TiVo’s software on all of its new DVR devices, as well as in multi-tuner gateways, IP set-top boxes and mobile platforms. Once TiVo is fully launched, Midcontinent customers will be able access video content from integrated video-on-demand, linear television and the Internet.

TiVo Premiere Q series DVR will serve as the entertainment hub for the home. Subscribers can opt to install the TiVo Mini, a companion low-cost IP set-top, to extend the viewing of live TV, recorded and streaming content, as well as On Demand programming, to rooms throughout their homes without an additional TiVo DVR.

Additionally, TiVo Stream will allow Midcontinent customers to stream both live and recorded content from their DVR simultaneously to multiple tablets or smartphones.
