Midcontinent Communications will join the ranks of cable operators offering home management solutions.
Midcontinent has joined the Comporium Security, Monitoring and Automation (SMA) dealer program.
The service is based on a device that combines a security alarm system, communications gateway and home automation platform.
“Our customers will have a total home management solution that gives them remote control access to lighting, appliances, thermostats and enhanced video monitoring through their smartphones, PCs and tablets,” said Midcontinent vice president of information systems Gary Shawd.
iControl has become the cable industry’s go-to security systems company, with a customer roster that includes Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Rogers Cable, Bright House Networks, Bell Aliant, Swisscom, and Comporium itself.
Comcast and Rogers are among iControl’s investors, along with Cisco, Intel Capital, Charles River Ventures, the Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers iFund, and Tyco International, the parent company of ADT Security Services, which also resells iControl systems.
Comporium has a reseller agreement in place with iControl, and has a client list that includes NewWave Communications and Mediacom.
Midcontinent is the nation’s 12th largest cable TV operator serving over 300,000 customers in the Upper Midwest. Comporium, a diversified communications company based in Rock Hill, S.C., within the Charlotte, N.C., metropolitan area, offers a fully managed solution for SMA powered by iControl software.
“The ‘connected home’ is now a reality, and this partnership with Midcontinent is a testimony to the forward thinking management and their goal to provide state-of-the-art technology to their customers,” said Comporium SMA dealer program vice president Dan Lehman. “We are eager to assist Midcontinent in launching this advanced system and demonstrating it to customers who not only want to protect their property and possessions, but also find ways to save on their energy costs and bring their homes into the digital lifestyle.”
