The consumer electronics manufacturer Mohu engineered the first uber slim HDTV indoor antenna in 2011, aka the Leaf antenna. The manufacturer continues to branch out into new technological territory through the development of cord-cutting devices. Hence, Mohu Channels. Furthermore, the manufacturer has its collective mind set on providing products that translate to a minimal expense for the user.
Mohu officially launched its Mohu Channels “box” on March 9th. It is currently available for purchase on gomohu.com. The new product is an independent device, more-or-less the size of a nook, comprised of a power cord, a TV screen connector, and a cord which leads to an HDTV Mohu leaf antenna. The Leaf antenna can be purchased separately, and prices run from $25 – $80. However, the manufacturer is now offering a bundle deal on its website that includes a Leaf 30 antenna for $170, which is only $20 more than the price of the “box” without the antenna. Users will also receive a universal remote when purchasing the “box” in the form of a backlit keyboard with a built-in air mouse.
Mohu Channels utilizes this HDTV antenna to consolidate OTA broadcast TV (CBS, ABC, NBC), web content, and streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu+, YouTube) via a channel guide with personalization capabilities. The company aslo said that viewers can also download Android-based TV web apps (e.g., Fox, CW, NBC). Once the device is purchased, the user can access content freely. The device also has a storage capability of 30 minutes of TV. It includes a USB port so that the user can view personalized video.
