Joel Babbit, a leading figure in raising awareness of environmentally responsible strategies, will be a headline speaker at the SCTE SEMI (Smart Energy Management Initiative) Forum 2013 in April, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced today.
Babbit, CEO and co-founder of the Mother Nature Network, will be a guest of the SCTE at its SEMI Forum, a relatively new Society event that focuses on operations management, specifically regarding energy usage.
Babbit will join Kevin Hart, executive vice president and CTO of Cox Communications and keynote speaker for SEMI Forum 2013, for a conversation on how Mother Nature Network is helping the business community address energy issues.
Following Hart’s opening remarks at the April 10 conference in Atlanta, Babbit and Hart will discuss case studies of energy management strategies that have successfully been employed by some of the nation’s leading companies.
The SCTE SEMI Forum 2013 will include discussion of power, density, performance, sustainability and disaster recovery issues.
Preliminary events, including working group meetings of the Sustainability Management Subcommittee (SMS) within the ANSI-accredited SCTE Standards Program, are scheduled for April 9.
“By incorporating proven solutions into our energy management toolkits, our industry can accelerate our ability to reduce consumption and costs,” said Hart. “Through his work with Mother Nature Network, Babbit is uniquely positioned to share the accomplishments of companies whose specific needs mirror those of cable.”
“A key part of the best corporate energy management programs is recognition of their value as sound business strategies,” said Babbit. “The tremendous strides that cable is making in addressing energy issues can provide the twofold benefits of increasing the availability of services, even while reducing the environmental footprint.”
Mother Nature Network is the world’s most visited environmental and social responsibility online network. Its sites – which include MNN.com and Treehugger.com – attract more than 8 million visits a month. Content goes well beyond traditional “green” issues, covering a wide range of responsible living topics with an easy-to-understand approach. Launched in 2009 by Babbit, MNN’s CEO, and Chuck Leavell, keyboardist for The Rolling Stones, equity partners include CNN and Discovery Communications.
In addition to the opening session, SCTE SEMI Forum 2013 will include three program modules of four presentations each. Each module will conclude with a panel discussion among the four presenters within that module. Modules are entitled: Energy Evolutions – A Look Into Applications, Software, Modeling and Smart Grid; Outside Plant and Fleet – Energy Savings From Workforce Management Approaches; and Facilities – Modular Approaches to Facility Energy Management.
