Motorola has ensconced itself in the Microsoft Mediaroom-based IPTV sphere, integrating back office operations, enabling visibility and management capabilities for Mediaroom-based home networks, and announcing a customer for the whole shebang.
Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business announced it has integrated its Communications Convergence Engine (CCE) operations support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS) system with Microsoft Mediaroom.
The combination enables operators to converge, design, package, deploy and manage Mediaroom-based IPTV services.
“Motorola has demonstrated the maturity of its Mediaroom expertise and technology solutions and is well placed to deliver back office systems integration,” said Dan McCrary, director of the global partner ecosystem for Microsoft Mediaroom at Microsoft. “As IPTV services have grown to provide ever more features and capabilities, Motorola has helped service providers accelerate subscriber growth of Mediaroom-based deployments.”
At the same time, Motorola expanded its NBBS remote device management software platform to include Mediaroom-certified set-tops, including Motorola’s own VIP Series of STBs.
Motorola’s new NBBS IPTV software provides visibility and management of the whole IP home, including modems, Wi-Fi gateways, VoIP phones, and now IP set-tops. The vendor claims that adoption of NBBS results in fewer calls to operators’ customer support centers and faster resolution for subscriber issues.
Motorola said it will provide Farmers Telephone Cooperative Inc. with its VIP1200 set-tops and Microsoft’s Mediaroom video services platform, as well as systems integration professional services support.
Brad Erwin, Farmers Telephone’s CEO, said: “Working with Motorola means we can keep our eyes on the end goal without having to manage the implementation in-house. Motorola’s unparalleled knowledge of IPTV delivery gives us the confidence that we’ll have a scalable and flexible platform that will allow us to continue to evolve our product offering as our business grows. Our engineering team has worked very closely with Motorola to be aligned with the project for successful deployment to our subscribers.”
Farmers Telephone is already a Motorola customer, using its MPEG-4 SD and HD encoders and its IRDs.
